Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is an additional sum of money given to schools for each child who qualifies for free school meals or has parents in the Armed Forces (Services).

The money is spent on providing those children with the same opportunities as those from more affluent backgrounds, ensuring that birth and social background do not hold young people back from achieving their potential. Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit but are accountable for how they have used it to close the educational gaps for vulnerable pupils. From September 2012 schools are required to publish how they have used the Pupil Premium.

For those pupils who are working below age related expectations or are not making expected progress, a range of strategies are put in place; this may include support within class or intervention strategies.

Intervention strategies are specific support programs provided outside of the classroom. At St John’s we are fortunate to have high quality teaching assistants who deliver a range of effective intervention strategies, making a significant and valued impact on the progress of the pupils in our school.

Please find see below our strategy for Pupil Premium spending for the three year period from September 2024 – July 2027
